Creamy and Delicious Avocado Pear Smoothie

The Skinny on this Easy Healthy Avocado Pear Smoothie

Light, creamy, refreshing, and slightly sweet, this lovely pale green smoothie is one I first sampled more than a dozen years ago. We were working our way through the healthy ingredients featured in Power Foods: 150 Delicious Recipes with the 38 Healthiest Ingredients from Martha Stewart and the editors of Whole Living Magazine.

I use avocado all the time in salads, sandwiches, for garnishing soups, and of course, for guacamole, but I’d never used one in a smoothie until this recipe. The original recipe called for silken tofu, but since I’m not a fan I used non-fat Greek yogurt instead. If you want to keep this smoothie recipe plant-based tofu is a great option.

With their rich, creamy texture, it’s easy to guess that avocados are high in fat. Thankfully, it’s the healthy fats – monounsaturated – which may help lower your LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and increase your HDL (“good”) cholesterol.

But I don’t think you’d ever guess just how rich in fiber avocados are (13 grams) or that gram for gram they have more potassium than bananas. They also contain a healthy dose of beta carotene, as well as vitamins B6, C and E, folate, niacin and thiamin.

What are Good Substitutes for Pear Juice in this Smoothie Recipe?

Unsweetened Apple Juice: Apple juice offers a similar level of sweetness and acidity to pear juice, making it a suitable substitute. It complements the creaminess of the avocado and yogurt while adding a touch of natural sweetness.
Unsweetened Pineapple Juice: Pineapple juice can add a tropical twist to your smoothie, enhancing its flavor profile with a hint of tanginess. It pairs well with avocado and yogurt, creating a refreshing and slightly exotic taste.
Coconut Water: Coconut water is a hydrating and mildly sweet alternative to pear juice. It adds a subtle coconut flavor to the smoothie while keeping it light and refreshing. Coconut water pairs well with avocado and yogurt, creating a creamy and tropical blend.
Unsweetened Almond Milk: Almond milk is a dairy-free option that adds creaminess to the smoothie without overpowering the other flavors. It has a subtle nutty taste that complements the richness of avocado and yogurt. Choose unsweetened almond milk to control the sweetness of the smoothie.
Water: If you prefer a lighter and less sweet smoothie, you can simply use water as a substitute for pear juice. Water helps to blend the ingredients smoothly while keeping the overall flavor subtle and neutral. You may need to adjust the sweetness by adding more honey or another sweetener to taste.

Feel free to experiment with these substitutes to find the flavor combination that suits your preferences best!
